Please read prior to embarking on the SML Diet weight loss plan

Prior to using any SML Diet products or embarking on ANY VLCD weight loss plan, please ensure you have read the following medical guidance notes:

Medical supervision is extremely important when losing weight. We care about you and your health. That is why you MUST adhere to our plans & medical guidance relating to VLCD's. 

We would ask that you do speak to your doctor prior to embarking on any weight loss plan. If you are currently on any medication, please do seek regular check up's with your doctor as there will be a possibility that your medication will need adjusting as you lose weight. It is also recommended that you get your blood pressure checked on a regular basis.

Please note: the SML Diet are not able to assist you with any medical issues. We would recommend you speak to your medical practitioner.

Prior to embarking on the SML Diet or ANY VLCD, please ensure you do not or have not suffered from one or more of the following:

  • Epilepsy, seizures, convulsions
  • Total lactose intolerance
  • Heart failure, arrhythmia, valve disease that requires treatment
  • severe kidney disorder
  • Liver disease
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Porphyria
  • Major depressive disorder including: schizophrenia, delusional disorder, psychotic episode, bi-polar disorder
  • current active anorexia bulimia  - or if you are undertaking treatment for any other eating disorder
  • your BMI is under 22.5
  • Currently taking anti-obesity medication
  • Thrombosis (currently taking medication for this).
  • any other heart condition
  • Stroke
  • Currently pregnant
  • Currently breastfeeding
  • Given birth within the last 3 months
  • miscarried within the last 3 months
  • any serious illness, trauma or injury/surgery within the last 3 months
  • Active cancer
  • Gout (you are only allowed to embark on a calorie controlled diet of 1300 calories with your doctors permission)
  • If you are under 16 years old or over 70 years old

  • If you answered YES to any of the above conditions, then a VLCD would not be suitable for you. Please consult your GP or medical professional who will be able to recommend a suitable weight loss plan that will support you.

    Please note: Certain conditions listed above could result in ill health or be FATAL if you embark on a VLCD. Please do not embark on a VLCD if you answered YES to any of the above questions.

Side effects

  • Please be aware that some (but not all) slimmers may experience the following:

  • Headaches, Dizziness, Feeling cold, Hunger, Nausea, Diarrhoea, Constipation, Cramps, Dry mouth, Halitosis, Hair shedding, Fatigue, Gallstone formation (very rare).

Drink to thirst

Whilst following the SML Diet, you are required to drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day. 

Conventional foods contain water and our foodpacks are in powder format so please bear this in mind on a daily basis. Everyone has different thirst requirements dependant on their body size/activity levels. 

The effects from dehydration can make you feel ill. For example nausea, fatigue, headaches, dizziness. Please recognise the signs and make sure you drink to thirst. Read more here
